Laura Hall, NCC, CCC
Founder & Career Counselor
Occassionally I ask clients about their early career ambitions, as the response sometimes provides helpful insights. When I was younger, I dreamed of being a journalist, of interviewing interesting people and telling their stories in a captivating way. My life took a different direction and I didn't pursue journalism, but I believe that the core of that early interest lives on in my current work. As a career counselor, I have the privilege of hearing my client's stories of who they are and how they came to be at this place and where they might like to go in the future. I provide them with tools and resources to help them determine what the next chapter of their career story will be, and help them create and carry out a plan to get there.
My career path started with another interest of mine in cross-cultural relations and the Russian language. I received a Bachelor of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Russian Language and Literature from Miami University in Ohio. After college, I lived in Moscow, Russia for one year and then got a Master’s in Russian Studies from Georgetown University in Washington DC. After four years working on a training and development program for international business professionals at the U.S. Department of Commerce, I realized that the work I was most drawn to was helping people set and achieve their career goals.
I received my Master’s degree in Career Counseling from the University of Maryland's Department of Counseling and Personnel Services, a graduate program consistently ranked number one in this category by U.S. News and World Report. Shortly after completing my studies, I obtained certification as a National Certified Counselor. I am also a Certified Career Counselor (CCC), the new standard of professional excellence for individuals trained as counselors, who specialize in the delivery of career counseling services.
Over the course of my career, I have practiced career counseling in university career centers, including top-ranked schools of business and engineering, managed career development programs for international professionals and provided a full-range of career services via distance counseling. My experience includes developing and teaching career management courses to students and professionals. I am an active member of the National Career Development Association and the Kentucky Career Development Association and a certified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) practitioner. Through Career Compass Global, LLC, I am excited to offer the benefit of my years of experience and passion for helping others enjoy satisfying, fulfilling careers.
